Studio (un)scripted: 5 questions with katie knowlton
KATE KNOWLTON | Director Global Events | Chartered Fellow (with the biggest heart of anyone i’ve ever met. like, she checks on me every time i’m sick, which is more often lately that it is not.)
The Studio is my happy place. Where is yours?
My happy place right now is increasingly hiking the mountains in California. Echo mountain is a regular fixture on my return trips to LA, at least every 3 months & I’m fortunate to have a friend with a holiday home near Yosemite. Doesn’t get much happier than that.
You’re a total boss babe, but still make time for friends, family, travel, exercise, taking interviews with me : ) How do you do all of that while maintaining that gorgeous smile?
I have an amazing support network of friends & family around the world. I am, by nature, super organized & I love to plan which helps! On the whole I’m a super positive, happy person, but I think we all have our moments of not feeling amazing. During those moments, I raise the drawbridge & hang with my furry one at home or reach out to my support network.
We met through SoulCycle (obv) and have stayed in touch for years since both moving away from LA. What is your trick to keeping LDR’s going and finding a similar community in TX where you are now?
Would you believe I’m finally approaching my 1,000 Soul ride?! Would have happened a long time go except for Covid shutting things down. I’ve made some great friends through Soul here & love our social time.
As someone that inspires me daily simply by being kind, graceful, genuine and thoughtful I imagine you’re a professional mentor to many. What does being a mentor mean to you?
Being a mentor is an opportunity to give back, to help someone who may have similar experiences to you or totally different ones. An ear for them to talk things through & provide input when invited. So many women suffer from imposter syndrome or lack of self confidence — I always want to lift those people up, and remind them of the courage in their abilities.
That said, if you were to define a mentor of yours, what capabilities do you quantify as important in learning from them?
As for me, my mentor needs to be someone I respect, someone who gets me & provides insight into why I might feel or react a certain way & someone who is bold enough to give me tough love, while coming from a place of caring! You also have to be someone I admire! In the words of the great Chris Chandler, someone who makes me feel like “you are enough!”
For a smile a day (at least) follow Katie on IG immediately, obviously.
